FAQs

Steel & aluminum shipping questions

Still have questions? Our team is ready to help.

How is steel and aluminum freight priced?

LTL pricing is density-based, and full-container ocean and FTL truck moves price on equipment type and lane. Enter true gross weight and dimensions for each bundle, skid or crate so the quote matches the load.

Can you ship long, oversized or very heavy metal pieces?

We quote palletized and crated metal by ocean, air and truck. For long bars, beams, coils or other out-of-gauge pieces, send the dimensions and weight to our team before you book.

Do Section 232 tariffs apply to my steel or aluminum?

Many steel and aluminum products and derivative products are covered, but coverage and rates depend on HTS classification and country of origin, and They were revised by presidential proclamation in April and June 2026. Read the current CSMS guidance for your HTS code and confirm before you place the order.

What import documents do metal shipments need?

A commercial invoice and packing list with the HTS code for each product. Entries of covered metal can require extra origin details, such as the country where steel was melted and poured or where aluminum was smelted and cast, so ask our customs team what your product needs. Buyers often also request mill test reports.

Why do container weights matter for metal?

Dense cargo reaches container and truck weight limits before the space is full, so a container of metal is often partly empty. Containers loaded for ocean shipment also need a verified gross mass declared to the carrier before loading.

Are there antidumping duties on steel and aluminum?

Yes, on some products from certain countries, including some aluminum extrusions and steel products. These apply on top of other duties and depend on the exact product and origin. See the AD/CVD guide and check before you buy.

What export documents does metal need?

How should metal be packed for shipping?

Band bundles and secure them on skids, and protect surfaces from moisture. Solid wood skids and crates must meet ISPM 15 treatment and marking to enter the US.

Is cargo insurance available for metal shipments?

Yes. Cargo insurance is optional and quoted when you book.
