On Oct. 1, CMA CGM Group said it had closed its purchase of FedEx Supply Chain, the contract logistics unit of FedEx Corp., for an enterprise value of $1.4 billion. The business moves into CEVA Logistics, CMA CGM’s logistics subsidiary, and the two groups entered into multi-year commercial agreements under which CMA CGM becomes a preferred ocean carrier for FedEx and the companies plan to cooperate on air cargo capacity.
CMA CGM’s FedEx Supply Chain deal by the numbers
In its closing announcement, CMA CGM said the acquisition brings nearly 10,000 FedEx Supply Chain employees and roughly 34 million square feet of warehousing into CEVA, nearly tripling its North American contract logistics footprint. The combined business runs about 150 warehouses and more than 240 North American locations, with a workforce of roughly 20,000. CMA CGM said the deal also deepens CEVA’s expertise in healthcare, technology, consumer and retail. FreightWaves reported that the unit adds 130 customers and accounted for less than 2% of FedEx’s consolidated annual revenue.
The commercial side reaches beyond warehouses. Under a non-exclusive agreement, CMA CGM becomes a preferred ocean carrier for FedEx. The companies also plan an air cargo capacity agreement on key routes, including Asia-Europe, aimed at improving aircraft utilization on long-haul flights. Rodolphe Saadé, CMA CGM’s chairman and CEO, called the closing “an important step in the development of CMA CGM and CEVA Logistics in North America.”
A carrier building an end-to-end model
CMA CGM presented the purchase as part of its plan to offer end-to-end logistics that combine container shipping, port terminals, inland transport, warehousing and value-added services. The Loadstar reported that Saadé recently said the group would continue to grow “organically in container shipping, while focusing acquisitions on logistics,” which the publication described as the less cyclical side of the business. CEVA’s CEO, Patrick Moebel, previously led FedEx Logistics and joined in 2025, according to FreightWaves. FedEx is now focusing on its freight transportation and parcel delivery businesses, FreightWaves reported.
The Loadstar added that the details of the air cargo arrangement have not been spelled out, including whether CEVA would gain access to FedEx’s wider capacity network.
What it means for shippers
For companies that already use FedEx Supply Chain, the immediate change is ownership: contracts, sites and teams move under CEVA. Customers should confirm account contacts and any planned changes to systems or terms with their account teams. The CMA CGM release did not give rates, volumes or start dates for the ocean and air agreements with FedEx.
